Presidents Round 5 Wrap

Hello and Good Morning All

Feeling crook this morning, not sure what has caused it only know my Brother in Law who is staying with us is also crook with the same tummy bug. So please forgive my short blog this week.

Another mixed bag of results for the club two wins and two losses. The A’s and B’s went down, the C’s won and the D’s won on a forfeit. A grade lost to Sheidow Park best with bat, Steff Potts 42, A’s made 194 but was not enough on Sheidows small ground. B’s lost to Glenelg ANA, C grade defeated St George with both the Choudhry brothers doing well, Darwood 4/41 and Ralph 40 and Slatts made 41 as well. One day matches have not be kind to us so far this season, there is another before the end of the season lets hope we can get 4 wins from that round.

Milestones – another South Road stalwart notches up his 100th game this round. To Graham (greybeard) Hartlett congratulations and have a great match. I have had the pleasure of knowing Graham since the 1980’s when he was a dashing centre half forward/full forward for the Edwardstown Footy Club and I was fortunate enough to play in the same team, and perhaps hit him lace out a couple times to enable him to kick a bag of goals. When I first played cricket against Graham he was playing for ANZ Bank who no longer exist. Graham saw the light and came to South Road. During his time with us he has scored 2214 runs with a highest score of 112 and taken 75 wickets with best bowling of 5/33. These days Graham does most of his best work behind the stumps. Graham, like Shaun also works for the club and is currently on the Committee of Management looking after our facilities and equipment.
Graham has two sons who have also represented South Road, Adam who is currently playing for West Adelaide and Hamish who plays for Port Power. I along with the club wish Graham every success for his 100th game. Graham, rest assured we will spell your name right on the 100 game Certificate.

Table Tennis Night – For the 2nd time this Season a club organised function was not attended by members and players and was a Non-Event. These are important functions for club camaraderie and sources of ever important fundraising for our club. We understand this is a busy time of year and conditions on Saturday where against us but without players supporting these events, the club will cease to exist. The club provides an opportunity for 44 people to play Cricket every Saturday, it’s time for everyone to give back to the Club and support these events. These events are advertised via the Website, Facebook and email. If you’re not getting notified of these events, email southroadcc@gmail.com with your updated email address.

Back to normal two matches this round, Captains have asked me to advise player that Training is both Tuesday and Thursday night, please try an attend both night to ensure yourself and others get a reasonable bat and bowl. Commencement time for training is 5.30pm please be punctual. Match fees and subs these are starting to come in, remember South Road is not a charity we only charge subs and match fees to pay for equipment, oval hire, association fees, umpire fees, so if you want us to continue to be able to offer all of you a game of cricket, “PAY UP NOW”
