Introducing our ‘A’ Grade Captain for the 2016/17 Season;

Tommy

Congratulations to Tommy and all the best for the upcoming season. Let’s all get behind him and ensure we have a successful season in all 4 Grades.

A bit of background and a short message from Tommy; (more…)

A Message from the President

Roadies, the committee has decided that a return to Pasadena High School for our Tuesday training sessions will allow an opportunity for the whole club to train together more easily and these sessions will start in late September. More details will come out soon from our training coordinators on what you can expect.

I’m also delighted to announce that Paul Amato will be our next club captain and look after the A Grade for Season 2016/17. More details on his background soon – but many of you know him already and he is also a premiership player from Peto’s triumphant Section 2 team of 13/14.

For those keen on a hit – informal sessions will begin this Sunday from 10am in the Cage. By informal I mean that they are not sessions that Stef and Paul as our training coordinators will run – it will just be a casual hit up for anyone keen.

We will have special offers on Roadies clothing – we have some left over social shirts in particular – you will see information about this soon on the website and Facebook page.

Please also remember that there is a vacancy on committee – anyone who is keen on stealing a nip or two of Graham’s Scotch whilst we have our meetings should let me know…..

See you soon,
Barn

Season 16/17 Update

Roadies – our committee has met and started our discussions around our on field and off field roles with lots of excitement and commitment from the team to deliver a great season for you all. We have Stef Potts and Paul Amato committed to providing you with training coordination – our sessions will have more variety and structure and we have a Cricket Director – someone to overview all things cricket – in Daniel Vertue. Please join me in thanking these guys for weighing in to keep the Roadies great!

We are also giving consideration to returning to Pasadena for a training night mid-week – to allow more variety and a bit of connection between fielding drills and the usual net sessions. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Last year the clothing effort from Luke Woolman was an outstanding highlight – so much good Roadies gear on display at trainings and on game days. With a huge commitment to a new business Luke has decided he had best focus on that for the year and has stepped down from committee. This leaves a vacancy that we are interested in knowing if anyone is keen on joining in the fun. Thanks to El Breakthrough for all his efforts and all the best with Brightspace Homes.

Adrian Woolman has stepped into the gap on the clothing front and will pick up where Luke has left off – and he will be ably assisted by Matt Potts – his new style guru. We can no doubt look forward to the new Roadies Sleeveless Jackets…. Need to keep the guns on show.

Turning to on field leadership we send a call out to any interested folks who would like to lead our club on field in Captaincy roles this year. As is our custom all of the roles are open – though return applicants from last year would be most welcomed. Please reach out to me directly or to Dan Vertue to discuss further.

Stay well.

Roadhouse!

Round 8 President’s Report

The sun has come up again, and we have 2 wins for this round. The A’s and C’s were big winners, the B’s lost outright and the D’s went down. Scores to follow, A grade defeated Morphetville Park 1’st innings 165 and 8/190 we declared at 2/172, best with ball Darren (Barny) Williams 5/45, best with bat Leigh Von Duve 84 no, Shaun Krutli 59 no, well done to Leigh his highest score for the club. B grade 42 and 95 lost to Mitchell Park 191. C Grade defeated North Haven, we made 9/188 North Haven 166 best with bat Luke Woolman 33 best with ball Greg Anderson 3/27, Dawood Choudhry 3/28. D grade lost to North Haven.

At the moment the C grade have moved back into the four and are on 34 points 4 points clear of the 5th side, over the next 3 rounds the C’s play sides below them on the premiership table one of those teams is the side in 5th place so they need to win all remaining games to keep their place in the top four and play finals. If you are playing in the C’s make sure you get to training every practice night to give yourself the best chance of being selected and continuing to win games. As a club get around Luke and the C grade to support and encourage them for their remaining matches leading up to the finals. (more…)

Round 7 Wrap from the President

While round 7 was disappointing that we lost all games, it is not all doom and gloom. The A grade were playing Keswick for the Maetze/Bradbrook Cup. Keswick made 259 and South Road were dismissed for 240, a narrow defeat probably helped by the sides inability to hold catches on the first Saturday. Watching the game I was impressed by the determination and fight showed by the lower batting order and with a bit of luck we could have won the match. Unfortunately the B’s went down to Warradale, The C’s lost to ICC Sharks as did the 4’ths.

However there was some outstanding individual efforts during this round of matches Shaun Krulti scored another century he now has 9 for the club breaking the previous record jointly shared by him and former player/life member Andrew Amos congratulations Shaun. Some might say an unknown batsmen made his maiden century for the club in the 4’ths yesterday well done Dan (plumber) Virtue beside you, only two people in the club believed you can bat, one was Roger and the other shall remain nameless. Graham Hartlett played his 100’th game for the club might not have been memorable game for you “greybeard” but it is a great milestone so well done and hope you feel better soon. (more…)

Cricket is back this Week….

Cricket resumes this Saturday so Training is back on this week – Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 at the Cage.

PRESIDENTS PRE-CHRISTMAS MESSAGE. Apologies to everyone for not getting the following President’s Message out earlier, Steve sent the following just before Christmas.

Round 6 was a right off due the hot weather on the second Saturday of the round. Not having a crystal ball I could not predict how we would have gone but we may have won all three of those matches. Unfortunately the B grade had already lost on the 1st innings the previous Saturday. (more…)

Training Cancelled Thursday 17th December

Due to the Forecast of 42 degrees tomorrow, Training has been cancelled.

If you would like to arrange a hit, contact your Captain but the current forecast will see Saturday’s games cancelled also.

Round 1 – Week 2

From the President.

Firstly I need to apologise to all members, after telling everyone last week about the Tradition of After Match Presentation at South Road, I was unable to attend the first one of the season. However that will be the only one I will miss hopefully.

While the results may not have gone our way this round apart from the Thirds, Congratulations to Luke and the boys, I have seen some encouraging signs both at games and practice.

We have a number of new players that I would like to welcome to the club, if I have not met you yet I will do my best to catch up. So with the new players and some regulars returning to our sides, this weeks selection of teams will hot up, which means competition for spots – always a good thing.

Captains have asked me to remind players that training commences at 5.30pm sharp, please make every effort to be there on time so captains can allocate appropriate time for all batters and bowlers. If you can’t make practice by 5.30pm because of employment etc. please let your Captain know.

Subs and match payments are important to the running of our club, please ensure you become financial. It may be game by game or if paid in a lump sum prior to Christmas substantial savings can be made.

Lastly the Club and all it members would like to congratulate Kristin and Matt Potts on the birth of their first child, Benjamin Thomas Potts born on the 5th of October. Well done guys, enjoy parenthood.

If you have something you would like the club to know, something that has happened in a game, or just something funny relating to a member and providing it is in good taste I will get out on this blog which I hope to do after each match.

Regards, Steve Mitchell
