2016-2017 Presidents Report

Greetings Roadies
The past year has been an eventful one for the club on a number of fronts and I will do my best to summarise them but firstly – let me take the time to thank the committee, captains, volunteers and our Patron Tim Pfeiffer for supporting the club through the past season.
As a committee, we set out for the year in true Roadies fashion by establishing a range of goals for ourselves we believed would uphold the clubs’ reputation and further our position as an outstanding community citizen. We set out to protect the spirit of the game by playing the game in a fierce but fair way, to promote an environment where all are welcome, to contribute to charities we felt needed our assistance and to provide structure and support for our members to experience growth. As the person entrusted with guiding us on these particular objectives I speak with pride of some of our achievements and with some regret, both personal and organisational, for the goals we were not able to achieve.
I look at our results across the grades as sobering but also heartening. To navigate a particularly unsuccessful year on field and yet still manage to place 4 teams on the park (with some cajoling and expanded phone bills) was a testament to the perseverance of our leaders. Each had their challenges thrown at them and each showed flexibility and ingenuity in solving those challenges. Well done each and all. And special thanks to all those people who chipped in and brought new players into the fold – I hope they have a great playing career with us in the future.
We have managed to maintain a relatively stable financial position; however, collection of subs remains a weekly challenge that will require some innovative thinking to overcome. I believe the evolution of online transactions can make this easier for the club in the future and challenging our traditional methods of collections will allow us to continue to provide a very affordable Saturday afternoon activity for years to come.
The Football Club and Bowls club have been very supportive in providing us a location to hold many of our post game gatherings and we are extremely grateful for this. We supported our patron as he sported a hideous moustache for the Leukaemia Foundation and we have also extended our support to the South Coast Cycling club, Cumberland United and Colonel Light Gardens Primary School to assist them in promoting community sport through the use of our equipment and the use of the cycling track on one of our designated nights. Whilst these weren’t the financial targets we established at the start of the year – they do add up to significant in-kind support to our community and I’m proud the club chose to do this – often at our own inconvenience. Pasadena High School continues to be a great partner of the club through access to their facilities and I hope this relationship continues to grow in the future. The club continues to have great community spirit and I for one am proud of this.
We struggled on the social side of the club – though two excellent events – the SRCC Life Members day and the end of season BBQ event were well attended and enjoyed by all there. Adrian Woolman and Aaron Schmidt are to be congratulated for their leadership roles in these two events.
We are on the cusp of the new redevelopment body of work for the Edwardstown Oval complex and an ambition I have held for the club for 30 years is nearing achievement. Our club having a place within the facility to finally call our home, as well as a training environment on the main complex is something many over the years have desired. Through the passionate leadership of our local councillor and club patron Tim Pfeiffer and the significant leadership Shaun Krutli has shown for the community, the affiliate clubs and all of us Roadies has seen the realisation of the Federal government and Marion Council committing to this sites’ redevelopment. Shaun and I are now dedicating our efforts to seeing this come to fruition and we hope to do the club and the community proud through our efforts on the Edwardstown Memorial Sports and Community Club Board.
Congratulations to the trophy winners and to our soon to be elected new committee. SRCC has been a great place for people to gather and become friends and my fervent hope is that this continues long into the future.
Roadhouse.
