Round 7 Wrap from the President

While round 7 was disappointing that we lost all games, it is not all doom and gloom. The A grade were playing Keswick for the Maetze/Bradbrook Cup. Keswick made 259 and South Road were dismissed for 240, a narrow defeat probably helped by the sides inability to hold catches on the first Saturday. Watching the game I was impressed by the determination and fight showed by the lower batting order and with a bit of luck we could have won the match. Unfortunately the B’s went down to Warradale, The C’s lost to ICC Sharks as did the 4’ths.

However there was some outstanding individual efforts during this round of matches Shaun Krulti scored another century he now has 9 for the club breaking the previous record jointly shared by him and former player/life member Andrew Amos congratulations Shaun. Some might say an unknown batsmen made his maiden century for the club in the 4’ths yesterday well done Dan (plumber) Virtue beside you, only two people in the club believed you can bat, one was Roger and the other shall remain nameless. Graham Hartlett played his 100’th game for the club might not have been memorable game for you “greybeard” but it is a great milestone so well done and hope you feel better soon.

Changes to the A grade Captaincy, After two seasons of leading the A grade side, Matt Potts has decided to stand down from the Captaincy for personal reason, The club and I would would like to thank Matt for all his effort, and good work for the past two season. The club has decided to appoint Stef Potts as the the A grade and Club Captain for the remainder of this season, Stef has previously Captained our A grade side and has been Matt’s vice Captain for this season. Please welcome Stef into this role. Matt will continue to play for the club and be on committee.

Saturday nights after match presentation for the Maetze/Bradbrook Cup was a huge success, thank you to all players who attended, congratulations to Keswick for retaining the cup. There were a number of life members in attendance including, Brian Maetze, Kevin Donaldson, Rob Farmer, Jeff (Rowdy) Nicholson, Russ Wight. It was great to catch up some of my old mates both from South Road and Keswick. The yiro’s from Arthur’s Yiro’s went down a treat. This is what after match presentation were like when I was still playing and it is one of the best parts of playing cricket at South Road a tradition that the club and I want to continue so be on notice for the the next after match presentation Saturday 30th January at Edwardstown Football Club Lounge at 6.30pm.

For the committee a reminder I need to know your availability for a meeting over the next two weeks to discuss our strategic plan, please e-mail or phone me.

Subs another gentle reminder please keep your payments coming either to your Captain or to treasurer Darren Williams.

Due to the semi final of the Big Bash this Thursday night, Stef and Jason are switching training to Wednesday night for this week, I would assume that would be for all grades and selection will take place on Wednesday night

The only funny thing I am aware of is about one of our players, whose lovely wife posts things on Facebook, this guy already has a few AKA’s (also known as) probably more than most, but one of his wife’s latest post was to call him “Snowy” not sure he is all that happy about his latest tag. See if you can figure out who it is?
